I am of course talking about Gravity which was tied with 10 nominations along with with American Hustle, and the crowd favorite 12 Year's a Slave which earned 9 nods. However, the breathtaking visual masterpiece that was Alfonzo Cuaron's Gravity out shinned the competition and swept The Academy Awards with 7 wins. That was director Alfonso Cuaron making history as the first Latin American filmmaker to win an Oscar for Best Director. Now, If you saw Gravity, you probably aren't shocked that it picked up so many Oscars at the big show. It was by far one of the most technically epic space films ever, and it actually picked up most of it's Oscars in those very technical categories including Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Visual Effects, and Best Score.Other big films of the night included Dallas Buyers Club winning 3 Oscars which included the Oscar for Best Makeup, and of course Matthew McConoughey and Jared Leto winning for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor Respectively. 12 Years A Slave also walked away with three wins which included Best Adapted Screenplay, the biggest prize of the night, Best Picture, and of course newcomer Lupita Nyongo won her first Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the first feature film she ever acted in. The BIG shocker of the night was American Hustle getting beat in all of the 10 categories it was nominated for. But American Hustle star, Jennifer Lawrence got plenty of screen time when Oscar Host Ellen DeGeneres called her out for her epic Oscar fall last year. To catch that embarrassing moment, you gotta click right here. And make sure you subscribe to Clevver Movies for all of your Trophy Life Coverage. Im Erin Robinson, and thanks for watching.
